Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS) will be joining Walk to Remember (WTR), expanding their reach to bereaved families who have experienced the loss of a baby. Watch the highlights of the 2014 NILMDTS Remembrance Walk in the video below.
Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep
NILMDTS is a nonprofit organization providing remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with a free gift of professional portraiture. The images captured serve as an important step in the family’s healing process by honoring the child’s legacy. Their services help families across the nation and the world.
“The photographs NILMDTS provides are instrumental in the healing process and now we will be able to further assist families in their healing. We welcome WTR to our family and are honored to expand additional offerings of remembrance and support to families who have suffered the difficult loss of a baby”, said Gina Harris, Executive Director of NILMDTS.
Walk to Remember (WTR)
Since 2008, WTR has been a nonprofit, 501(c)3, all-volunteer organization that provides bereavement care resources to parents who have faced the death of a baby due to pregnancy loss, miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or SIDS.
WTR has offered support and services to thousands of families by providing Bereavement Care Packages to over 30 hospitals throughout Colorado and Wyoming. Care Packages consist of a memory journal, the book Empty Cradle, Broken Heart, a small teddy bear, footprint mold, camera, baby blanket (often handmade), handmade jewelry and contact information for local and online support groups and resources. The Care Packages are distributed to families at the time of a loss by nursing staff at the benefiting hospitals. To many parents who have just experienced a loss these packages offer the chance to make memories with their baby as well imperative support and direction in their desperate time of need.
Additionally, over the past six years, WTR has hosted an Annual Memorial event in Littleton, Colorado where families gather to remember their loved ones. During the event, balloons are released by families in their baby’s honor. The event also includes readings, music and guest speakers to honor those babies that left this world too soon. Following the program, participants join together in a 1.4-mile reflective walk around Johnson Reservoir in Clement Park. It is a truly beautiful event that brings the community together, and reminds bereaved families that they are not alone.
Amy Lugowski, President of WTR, states “We are so thrilled for the future. With Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep taking on the programs of Walk to Remember, more families throughout Colorado will have the support and resources they need through their journey of grief. The reach that NILMDTS has and the families they touch is a great asset and will ensure that the missions and programs of Walk to Remember will be extended throughout Colorado and beyond.”
NILMDTS is proud to take on the programs, continuing the mission of Walk to Remember along with its own. They will continue the Bereavement Care Program and host the Annual Memorial Walk in Colorado under the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep umbrella.
